Text "The Power of Language in Branding" on a geometric blue and purple abstract background, conveying a modern, professional mood.

Over the past year, I've been on a LinkedIn journey, posting regularly. I'll be honest – in the beginning, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. My posts were boring, bland, and seemed to be lost in the vast sea of social media noise.

Persistence and a hunger for growth led me to experiment, learn, and adapt. Fast forward to today, and I've achieved a staggering 385% increase in my platform's reach and engagement.

Here are the three types of posts that helped me expand my professional network, engage my audience and create exciting new opportunities.

1. How-Tos (Long-form / Carousel): One of the most effective ways to engage your audience on LinkedIn is by sharing your expertise through How-To posts. This format allows you to take what you know best and provide valuable, step-by-step details to your audience.

Consider creating long-form posts or carousels that guide your readers through a particular process or offer insights into solving common business challenges. By sharing your knowledge and providing actionable advice, you position yourself as an authority in your field, earning the trust of your audience.

Pro tip: use clear and concise language and include visual aids like infographics or screenshots to enhance understanding.

2. Lists (Short Form): In today's fast-paced world, people often prefer bite-sized information they can quickly digest. Creating short-form LinkedIn posts with lists makes it easy for your readers to absorb valuable information in a concise manner. Lists can also quickly become shareable content, increasing your reach and potential for new connections on LinkedIn.

Pro tip: encourage your audience to engage with your post by asking questions or inviting them to share their thoughts on the listed items.

3. Real-life Examples (Personal Storytelling): Storytelling is a powerful tool to create an emotional connection with your audience. By sharing real-life examples and personal experiences, you humanize your brand and make your LinkedIn posts relatable. Whether it's a challenge you faced in your career or a significant success story, personal anecdotes capture attention and evoke empathy.

Pro tip: while sharing your experiences, tie them back to valuable lessons or takeaways relevant to your audience. Whether it's resilience, problem-solving, or adaptability, extracting the key lessons from your stories will resonate with your readers and leave a lasting impression.

Repurpose: long-form content to short-form content for multiple uses

Now that you've got your LinkedIn content strategy in place, don't let it go to waste. The beauty of content creation is that you can repurpose it across different platforms to expand your audience. Like this blog post for example! It was repurposed from this LinkedIn post.

Here are a few other suggestions for repurposing your content:

  • Take your How-To guides and lists and transform them into engaging videos or podcast episodes.

  • Create in-depth blog posts that delve further into the topics you've covered on LinkedIn.

  • Use your real-life examples as the foundation for inspiring newsletters that keep your audience eagerly awaiting your next update.

By repurposing your LinkedIn content, you amplify your reach and cater to different audience preferences, reinforcing your expertise and authority across various mediums.

Conclusion

LinkedIn offers a unique platform to connect with a business-focused audience actively seeking professional growth and collaboration. By incorporating How-Tos, Lists, and Personal Storytelling into your content strategy, you'll engage your audience, position yourself as an industry authority, and attract your ideal clients.

Happy posting!
